Baking without grains or beans.

April 13th, 2008 · 4 Comments

I love to bake, but I’m trying a new diet to try and stay away from things to which I’m theoretically (by skin testing) allergic.    That means no wheat, no corn, no legumes, no grains of any sort for a while.  I can have nuts except for peanuts and cashews.  I can have seeds, a little rice, and hemp (so far).

Where can I find recipes for cookies and  goodies online?

Let me go you one further — abortion.

April 10th, 2008 · 8 Comments

1) Abortion should be Safe
2) Legal and acceptable, and
3) Rarely utilized.

I hear this a lot.  I hear it all the damn time, even on feminist forums.  “Birth control is important because it PREVENTS abortions.”  I want to say “fuck that noise”.

Birth control is important because a woman should have control of her fertility.  It’s important because a man should have control of his fertility.  Hear that, guys?  Hurry up and make your own damn pill.  And wear the condom.

But back to point three there.  Point three can fuck off.  It’s a judgment.  It’s  a value statement.  It should be rarely used.  Sure, you don’t see someone saying to a diabetic, “We’ll give you insulin, but it should be rarely used.  Same thing with that kidney transplant.  Be sparing with those!”  No.  Fuck you.

There is no qualifier.  Women have the right to do anything they want to their bodies.  No, “But what if she gets pregnant and has abortions on purpose!?”  Tough.  It’s her body.  Just stop it right there.  It’s her body.  Nothing else matters.

Another thing I hate is this, “Every woman should get one free pass, one free abortion.”   No.  A woman gets as many abortions as she wants.  If she wants one, she needs one.  It’s her body.  There’s something in it causing her distress, putting her under undue stress, threatening her well-being.

Abortion should be, as with all other necessary (non-elective) medical procedures:

  1. Legal
  2. Safe
  3. Free
  4. Accessible
  5. Unlimited

It’s not something I’m willing to qualify or argue.  I trust women to make good choices when given autonomy and power and hope.  I trust women.  I trust us with our bodies.

Your Score: The True Feminist

You are 98% on your way to being a Feminist!

You are a fellow Patriarchy Blaming Feminist, my bosom-buddy in the Sanctimonious Women’s Studies set. You know sexism where you see it, and you’re not afraid to call it out! You know a lot about Feminism, and you got your head on straight when it comes to politics too. In general, you’re just pretty awesome and you judge people for who they are, not what arrangement of parts they have and the roles they are expected to play.

P.S.

If you liked my test and want to bitch about sexism and talk about Feminism with me, feel free to message me. Us Feminists got to stick together!

Summer 08: tomatoes, tobacco, and peppers.

April 6th, 2008 · 2 Comments

In the Planter’s Pride starter box!

Sweetie Sweetie Sweetie 1000Year Alba Alba TomPep TomPep
Sweetie Sweetie Sweetie 1000Year Alba 1000Year TomPep TomPep

Sweetie are cherry tomatoes (my very favourites) from Aimers Organics. 1000Year is 1000-Year Tobacco (cultivated from seeds salvaged from a West Coast Native settlement) from Salt Spring Seeds.  Alba is Alba Regia Peppers and TomPep are Tomato Peppers, both from Salt Spring Seeds.

I’m doing a tiny 6-pack of Brandywine Tomatoes from Aimers Organics as well.

Herbs don’t go in for a while, and the grains can go in the moment I can really DIG in the yard.

Love languages.

April 6th, 2008 · No Comments

I don’t usually do memes — I find them irritating and meaningless, for the most part. If I do them, it’s because I’m bored. But I like this one for more than the procrastination. I include it here in honour of Saint Wydassia. http://www.greaterquest.com/LoveLanguages.asp
The results are pretty polarized and a little embarrassing, in their way. *frowns* There you go, anyway. Can anyone spot the sensory disorder? The disability? It’s not that I’m opposed to touch. I’m opposed to PAIN. Any positives from touch are obliterated by pain. And I always need help. I hate needing help. I can’t change it, and I hate it.

Score Love Language
6 Words of Affirmation
5 Quality Time
7 Receiving of Gifts
11 Acts of Service
1 Physical Touch

How to interpret your Profile Score:

Your highest score indicates your primary love language. Your second highest score indicates your secondary love
language. If two scores are identical, you are bilingual (you have two primary love languages). If the scores of your
primary and your secondary language are close (for example, 10 & 9 respectfully), it indicates both are important to
you. Whatever a significant other does to express love in either of these languages will get emotional points with you.
The highest possible score for any language is 12.

Local: Gamers

April 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

If I write a one-shot game this month, is anyone free to help me playtest it on May 3 or 4?  Know anyone else who might help out?  I have NO idea what it’ll be, but it’ll be fun.  I promise.  I haven’t even picked a system yet.   <.<;;;  Yes, I suck like that.

It could be Amber DRPG, Vampire, AD&D (though I don’t see why I should bother here, because I want to wait until 4th ed for this), Shadowrun, or CyberPunk.  Shadowrun is my most familiar, but if you know me, you know that the dice are secondary and that I’ll put spaceships in AD&D and knights in armour in Shadowrun, so… yeah.  UNRELIABLE, ME.  Sorry?

More details to come.  Feel free to email me at my LJ address if you’re curious.  My goals for the month are to write and package a one-shot game and write a screenplay.

Wolf’s “Flower of Heart’s Fire”

My friend WolfSilverOak has been making jewelry and textile art for a long time. I buy her scarves and necklaces on a regular basis and am always happy with them. This time, though, she just blew me away. I am so amazed by this piece of hers!  It’s an amazing necklace. Click the image for the full picture.

Here’s her text from her Etsy listingThis unique, and stunning piece was carefully hand beaded, and features a genuine resin dipped, Cattalya Orchid.

The base of this stunner is a spiral rope chain, in the graduated colors of fire, 16 different colors in all, then carefully branch bead fringed on each and every turn of the spiral, terminating in a goldtone toggle clasp. This magnificent piece is built using 10lb FireLine for the base necklace, and 6lb FireLine for the fringe.

In this piece, you see the culmination of well over 100 hours worth of work, almost a full (125yd) spool of FireLine, and nearly entire hanks of each color of Czech glass seed bead.

A true Masterpiece, this gorgeous piece is guarenteed to gather many compliments and turn heads where ever you may wear it.

Please be aware, this is not a lightweight piece, coming in at over 1lb in weight, by itself.

Way to go, Wolf!  I’m used to expecting amazing things from you, but this one took the cake.  I really suggest checking out her Etsy shop.

March Summary.

April 1st, 2008 · No Comments

2008 Total: 185916

  • March: 104525 (Goals: 30/50/100)
  • February: 31373 (Goals: 30)
  • January: 50018 (Goals:30/50)

Biggest accomplishment: My first (that I know of) six figure month.

Projects: I worked on five different pieces over the month, finished two, stalled on two, worked on one for the last four days.

What I did differently: Mobic and Dragon Naturally Speaking 9. Less pain, less finger-work. I broke my headset today and need my computer upgraded so it will be gone for a week. I am not expecting a similarly spectacular April.

Next month: April goal is reset at 30k (average of 1k/day for the year is the annual goal). I am also thinking of doing http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/. I’m signed up again. My goals for April are to get some other (screenplay) writing done and to get at least 10k into the novel I really wanted to write this year.
